Fun Activities for Building Math Skills at Home

Here are 5 fun, easy and engaging preschool activities that focus on building those early math skills. These activities have zero prep and use items that are already in your home:

Counting with Snacks: Use small snacks like Cherrios, blueberries, raisins or pretzels. Have your child count them out as they eat. Give your child a cutting board to lay out the snacks and your child can line them up and put them in groups of 10s. If you are using a snack like cereal, you can invite your child to sort them by size or shape.

Shape Scavenger Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around your house. Ask your child to find items that are circles, squares, triangles, etc. For younger children, you can draw the shape first and discuss the properties of the shape before going on the hunt!

Sorting Objects: Gather items like children’s books, small toys, blocks or legos. Have your child sort them by size, color, or type.

Building with Blocks: Use blocks or LEGO to create structures. Encourage your child to count how many blocks they used and discuss patterns or symmetry.

Number Line Jump: Create a number line on the floor with tape. Call out numbers, and have your child jump to the corresponding spot. This helps with number recognition and counting and is a fun way to release some energy after school!

Pattern Making: Use beads, colored paper, or stickers to create patterns. Start with simple AB patterns (e.g., red, blue, red, blue) and challenge your child to continue the pattern or create a pattern of their own! (This can also be used with snacks!! As you can tell, we love playing with our snacks!)

If you want to engage your child with educational activities but don’t have the time to prep them or do them with your child, Class with Chloe is revolutionizing how parents and children engage with early math concepts by incorporating play-based learning and interactive activities that children can do independently at home. Utilizing Chloe's vibrant and captivating illustrations, these activities are not only educational but also immensely enjoyable for preschoolers. By integrating playful elements into the learning process, children can grasp foundational early math skills in a manner that feels natural and exciting.

One of the engaging activities is the "Color by Numbers" using Chloe's illustration of her character, Chomps the dinosaur. This activity can be printed and colored in with crayons or it can be done on the go on an iPad.

Another play-based activity is the "Feed the Frog,” where you draw a line from the flies to the frog’s mouth and count the number of frogs that the frog ate! Chloe’s playful drawings and the fun activity of actively feeding the frog create a silly way to build those early math skills at home.

By incorporating Chloe's playful illustrations into these interactive and play-based math activities, Class with Chloe offers an effective approach to preschool learning through play. Parents are given the tools to actively participate in their child's education, creating a fun and supportive atmosphere that lays a strong foundation for future academic success.
